S25 IrDA Programs

The S25 has an Infared port and an optional serial cable that enable it to communicate with a PC. To achieve infared communication all you have to do is to install a "Standard 19200 bps modem" and assign it to your infared port. With Windows 98 and later you can send MIDIs and logos (view the relative pages) to your S25 just be right clicking on a file and selecting "Send To --> Infared". A simple program that can simplify this task (enables drag & drop) is QuickBeam. There are other programs that help manage your S25. Siemen's own SoftDataLink PRO is probably not the best solution. The simpler S25 explorer can read your phonebook, SMS, upload/download logos and MIDIs, and SMS25 is better suited for SMS. There is also CallNET with many features, most of them crippled in the freeware version. Other similar programs in crippled "free" versions are the Italian Visual S25 and the German PHONEeditorPRO. If you speak German also check S25@once which has some interesting features, but they also come at a price.

Of course, if you want to check out the programs that are not freeware, but you really can't afford them, then you might want to try ASTALAVISTA for a crack or serial number. If you end up using one of these programs regularly, you should then buy it.

SoftDataLink PRO :

This is Siemens' official program for the S25 mobile. Unfortunately, it is not as advanced as it should have been. The only interesting feature, not found in other software is the ringtone editor. Furthermore, I could not get the software running very well on my system (Trouble with phonebook and appointments).

QuickBeam :

QuickBeam is a very simple drag & drop program that will let you send MIDIs and logos to your S25. It works very well, but it doesn't offer you any mobile management features.

S25 Explorer :

This is an excellent program for the S25. You can upload/download logos and ringtones, manage the phonebook, the SMS etc. The only limitation of the unregistered version is a 20-char. SMS limit. The program does not have any exotic features, but I highly recommend it to those who want a simple yet effective program to manage their S25.

CallNET :

CallNET has many features and also supports other mobile phones, like Nokia, Bosch, Motorola etc.. Unfortunately, the "free" version is severely crippled, and those in search of a free prog should turn to S25 explorer, or SMS25, depending on their needs.

SMS25 :

This is a nice little program that tries to simulate the actual S25 interface. I don't believe that this philosophy is correct, as mobiles have a poorer UI than windows programs due to platform limitations. Apart from that, this program is recommended, especially to those who want to manage their SMS. It also offers phonebook management and logo uploading. Be careful though, it only works with the small font setting in your display properties.

S25@Once (German Only) :

Real pity the S25@once only exists in German. Even if I don't speak a word German, this software caught my attention. It has some real interesting features, like exporting to Excel, backups, built-in logo editor etc. that are not found in competitive programs. Also, the unregistered version is very crippled. So, if you speak German and you can spend some money on S25 software, check this out.

Visual S25 (Italian Only) :

Not a bad program, it supports all of the S25 functions, but it is in Italian. Also, on my system it hangs whenever I try to see my calendar. If it works for you, and you can manage the Italian, try it, else stick with S25 explorer or even SMS25.

PHONEeditorPRO (German Only) :

This is the only program that refused to work with my Laptop. I think it said something like "you have to restart PEP" and closed, just when I started it, but I don't speak German so, I could be wrong. It worked (sort of) on my desktop where I don't have an Infared port... In all, this seems to be a crippled version of a rich suite, comparable to CallNET and S25@once, but I could not test it myself.
